Singer Irene Namatovu has opened up about embracing the responsibility of raising children who are not biologically hers, saying it is one of the most fulfilling decisions she has ever made.
The celebrated musician revealed that long before she became a mother herself, she helped raise two children her husband, Geoffrey Lutaaya, had from a previous relationship.
According to Namatovu, the experience has been rewarding, as the children have grown into responsible adults and continue to make her proud.
I’m happy that I took care of and raised children who belonged to my co-wife, and none of them has disappointed me. They are well educated and living good lives today. I believe I’m about 80% responsible for the good life they’re enjoying.
She used her experience to encourage parents and guardians to show equal love and care to children entrusted to them, regardless of biological ties.
Namatovu advised that anyone raising a stepchild or a child from their spouse’s previous relationship should treat them with kindness, arguing that the blessings received from doing so often extend to one’s own biological children.
“I encourage fellow parents, especially those raising children their husbands entrusted to them from a young age, to treat them well. When those children are blessed, that blessing will also follow your biological children.”
