Marvel Unveils David Jonsson as the Next Black Panther

Marvel sent fans into celebration after revealing David Jonsson as the new Black Panther.

The British actor received a thunderous welcome during Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con after director Ryan Coogler introduced him as the star of Black Panther III.

The announcement ends months of speculation about who would carry the franchise following the death of Chadwick Boseman.

Instead of recasting T’Challa, Marvel will continue the story through his son, a character first introduced at the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Jonsson kept his speech short but thanked everyone involved in bringing him into the Marvel family.

Thank you to this family that I have the honor and the blessing to join. I do not want to say too much because I want to let the screen do the talking.

Fans inside Hall H responded with loud applause, making the reveal one of Comic-Con’s biggest highlights.

Ryan Coogler returns to direct the movie, while Letitia Wright and Winston Duke are set to reprise their roles. Denzel Washington will also join the cast.

The film is set for release on December 15, 2028.
