KIMENYEDDE, MUKONO – Mukono District Chairperson, Hon. Francis Lukooya Mukoome, has challenged student leaders to embrace leadership grounded in integrity, discipline, commitment, and a clear vision for the future, cautioning that power should be viewed as an opportunity to serve rather than a badge of prestige.
Speaking as the Guest of Honour during the handover ceremony of the outgoing and incoming Students’ Council at St. Andrew’s Ndwaddemutwe SEED Secondary School in Kimenyedde Sub-county, Hon. Lukooya reminded young leaders that genuine leadership demands sacrifice, innovation, strict time management, and continuous learning.
“Leadership is a call to service, not a seat of entitlement,” Hon. Lukooya noted. “True leaders prioritize the welfare of those they lead, maintain high personal credibility, and remain accountable to both God and their community.”
Revisiting the history of the school, the District Chairperson revealed that he was among the key local leaders who advocated for the establishment of St. Andrew’s Ndwaddemutwe SEED Secondary School. He expressed delight that the institution is expanding access to secondary education in the area and pledged to return to deliver a comprehensive motivational lecture on the principles that have shaped his own public service journey.
He further urged learners to pursue academic excellence with single-minded determination, describing education as the single greatest tool capable of transforming lives. Hon. Lukooya committed to lobbying for additional computers and classroom infrastructure to bolster the school’s learning environment.
Emphasizing character, he advised female students that lasting beauty lies in discipline and personal development, while encouraging boys to invest heavily in their studies to secure a successful future.
Passing the Baton
Outgoing Head Prefect, Nasuuna Prescilla, expressed gratitude to God and the school management for the privilege to serve. She described leadership as a ministry rooted in humility, active listening, and diplomacy, advising the incoming team to lead by example and uphold moral integrity in every decision.
Taking over the mantle, the newly elected Head Prefect, Lutaya Dickson, promised a tenure defined by transparency, teamwork, and action rather than rhetoric. He invited his fellow students to contribute constructive ideas toward school growth and requested continuous mentorship from the teaching staff.
The Headteacher, Mr. Kigongo Nathan, commended Hon. Lukooya for his foundational role in establishing the school and appreciated President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s government for rolling out the SEED Secondary School Programme. He appealed to district authorities for building materials—specifically cement—to complete the school’s multipurpose hall, while urging parents and district leaders to collaborate with the school to eradicate student absenteeism.
Speaking on spiritual guidance, School Chaplain and Parish Priest Rev. Samuel Muwonge dedicated the new student cabinet to God, reminding them that fellow students will constantly look up to them as role models. Ms. Nakaddu Winfred also praised the school Electoral Commission, headed by Mr. Tazenya Nathan, for conducting a transparent democratic transition, urging students to actively engage with the practical skill-building focus of the new lower secondary curriculum.
