Many Marvel fans are asking the same question after the studio’s big Comic-Con announcement: Who is David Jonsson?
The British actor is set to become Marvel’s new Black Panther after the studio confirmed he will lead Black Panther III.
The role marks the biggest moment of his career and places him at the centre of one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most successful franchises.
Jonsson was born in London, England, and began building his acting career through television before making a name for himself on the big screen.
He first gained widespread attention for his performance as Gus Sackey in the BBC and HBO drama series Industry.
His career continued to rise with roles in films including Rye Lane, which earned praise from critics, and Alien: Romulus, where he played Andy, an android whose performance won over audiences and showcased his range as an actor.
Jonsson has also appeared in Deep State and Murder Is Easy, steadily establishing himself as one of Britain’s fastest-rising stars.
Marvel officially introduced Jonsson as the new Black Panther during its Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con. Director Ryan Coogler welcomed him to the franchise alongside returning stars Letitia Wright and Winston Duke.
Rather than recasting the late Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa, Marvel confirmed that Jonsson will play T’Challa’s son, continuing the story introduced at the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Speaking after the announcement, Jonsson thanked the cast and crew for welcoming him into the Marvel family.

With Black Panther III scheduled for release in December 2028, David Jonsson now faces the biggest challenge of his career as he prepares to carry the legacy of Wakanda into a new era.
