For Aidah Mugo, choosing Mbaziira Tonny as one of Uganda’s top DJs had less to do with music than the friendship they have built over the years.
The Ugandan vocalist appeared on Sanyuka Uncut, where she was asked to name the DJs she rates most highly.
Tonny featured at the top of her list alongside Suuna Ben and DJ Shiru.
There are very many DJs. Of course, Mbaziira Tonny and Suuna Ben come first. Another one is DJ Shiru.
As soon as she mentioned his name, attention shifted to the relationship they have maintained away from the spotlight.
Mugo said Tonny’s place in her life made him the first person she thought about.
He was top of mind. He is my good friend, so I could not not think about him.
Although their closeness has often sparked dating rumours, Mugo insisted friendship has always defined their relationship.
What connects us is friendship. We are very good friends.
She finished by asking God to watch over Tonny, a gesture that reflected the affection she has for someone she considers a close friend.
God, protect him for me, love him for me, and prosper him for me.
