After earning praise for playing Michael Jackson in Michael, the actor has joined the cast of Amazon MGM Studios’ action thriller Supermax alongside Will Smith and AnnaSophia Robb.
The thriller centres on two FBI agents investigating a murder inside one of the world’s most secure prisons.
While filmmakers have kept Jaafar’s character under wraps, landing the role signals growing confidence in the young actor.
David Gordon Green will direct the film, with Will Smith also producing through his company, Westbrook.
Filming is scheduled to begin in mid-August, and Amazon MGM Studios plans to release the movie exclusively on Prime Video.
However, the studio has not announced an official premiere date.
For Jaafar, Supermax marks the first major role of his career after his breakout performance in Michael.
The casting also signals that Hollywood is moving quickly to build on his early success.
