Kataleya and Kandle reveal the song that rescued their career after Theron Music exit – Sqoop

Two years after their highly publicized departure from Theron Music left their music career hanging in the balance, Kataleya and Kandle have revealed the song they credit with bringing them back into Uganda’s music conversation.

The duo says there was a point when they genuinely questioned whether they would ever recover from the uncertainty that followed their exit from the record label.

But that changed with Tompa.

Speaking about the song, Kataleya and Kandle described it as the breakthrough they desperately needed at a time when they were trying to rebuild both their confidence and their careers.

According to Kandle, the collaboration with Vinka only happened after several failed attempts to interest her in other songs.

“We sent her a few songs but she didn’t like any of them,” she recalled. “We went back to the studio and created Tompa. When she heard it, she immediately loved it and asked us to record it properly.”

What followed became one of the biggest songs of the year.

The collaboration has since attracted more than 1.4 million YouTube views, introducing the duo to a new wave of listeners while reminding old fans why they had become one of Uganda’s most exciting female acts.

For Kataleya, the song represented much more than commercial success.

“We had gone through a difficult time and Tompa helped bring us back,” she said. “We are grateful to Vinka because she believed in the song and made the collaboration easy.”

The pair also praised Vinka’s professionalism and enthusiasm in the studio, saying her positive attitude made the recording process smooth despite the pressure they were under.

Having rebuilt their momentum, Kataleya and Kandle are now looking ahead rather than behind. The trio are expected to reunite on stage when they perform together at Vinka’s upcoming concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval, bringing full circle a collaboration that helped relaunch the duo’s career.
