A suspected armed robbery gang accused of terrorising Entebbe and other areas has been smashed after police arrested four suspects and recovered a rifle loaded with 15 bullets.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said detectives had made a breakthrough in two aggravated robbery cases reported in June and August 2026.
The gang first struck at Buyinja Trading Centre in Nkumba, Katabi Town Council, where armed men allegedly stormed a distribution company, fired shots and escaped with Shs24 million.
One suspect was reportedly dressed in military uniform during the attack.
Police recovered two cartridges at the scene and later linked the gun to several other robberies, five within Kampala Metropolitan and four outside the region.
The suspects allegedly returned on August 3, attacking a shop in Kasenyi, Bendegere Village, during the delivery of goods.
Owoyesigyire said the gang fired a shot, threatened a cashier with a knife and escaped on a motorcycle.
But detectives tracked the motorcycle, leading to a joint operation involving Kampala Metropolitan South and Jinja City police.
The suspects were intercepted in Ngogwe, Buikwe District, as they tried to return to Kampala.
According to Owoyesigyire, the suspects admitted involvement in the two attacks and revealed details of other robberies in Kampala, Eastern Uganda and the Albertine region.
Their information led police to Ngando Village, Mukono District, where a rifle and 15 rounds of ammunition were recovered.
The four suspects remain in custody as police continue hunting for other members of the gang.
Owoyesigyire warned that police will continue using intelligence-led operations to dismantle criminal networks.
