Ray G brings western Uganda’s sound to Kololo in a historic show of regional might – Sqoop

The buildup to Ray G’s latest concert had all the hallmarks of an event poised for major success. In the days leading up to the night, buses ferried eager fans from across Western Uganda, while Ray G himself took to the streets of downtown Kampala, promoting the show with relentless energy. Organized by veteran promoter Abtex, the concert proved to be far more than a typical headlining gig.

Ray G brought Western Uganda’s distinct musical identity to one of the capital’s grandest stages, making an undeniable case for regional music to claim a central spot in the nation’s mainstream entertainment industry.
The self-acclaimed “King of the West” delivered the highly anticipated Ray G Live in Concert before a massive crowd, transforming the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds into a vibrant celebration of culture, music, and regional pride.

The event marked Ray G’s fourth major solo show and his most ambitious Kampala outing to date, following a string of triumphs that included a sold-out showcase at Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara. Bringing the celebration to Kololo was more than just a change of venue—it was a bold statement of artistic growth.
From the moment he stepped onto the stage, the singer embraced the responsibility with natural ease. He leaned heavily into the catalog that built his career, prompting roaring sing-alongs from fans while showcasing the contemporary heritage sound that established him as a powerhouse in Western Uganda. Hits such as “Omusheshe,” “Eizooba,” and “Yoya” resonated deeply with the crowd, underscoring his tight bond with his core Runyankore-speaking fanbase.

The showcase also drew strength from a diverse supporting cast that kept the energy high throughout the evening. Delivering on his promise of a broad lineup, Ray G shared the stage with a mix of regional talent and established national stars, including Truth 256, Omega 256, Levixone, Spice Diana, Winnie Wa Mummy, Mudra, T Paul, and Feffe Bussi.
Matching the scale of the performances was a high-caliber production handled by Fenon Events. The production team delivered a polished technical setup featuring dynamic lighting, crisp audio, and a expansive stage design tailored to the Kololo venue. The light displays shifted seamlessly with the mood of each track, while the balanced sound projection ensured the music reached every corner of the grounds without overwhelming the crowd.

Yet, beyond the lights and music, the night represented a broader cultural shift. For decades, Uganda’s music industry has remained heavily Kampala-centric, often requiring artists from other regions to build massive local followings before seeking national validation. By drawing a massive crowd to the heart of the capital, Ray G demonstrated that regional popularity is no longer confined by geography—it is a formidable national commercial force.
