People can become deeply passionate about the causes they believe in, but that passion can sometimes turn into pressure when others refuse to agree.
Prominent news anchor and theologian Samson Kasumba has questioned that attitude, challenging people who expect everyone to support their causes.
In a post on X, Kasumba questioned why anyone should assume their cause automatically deserves everyone’s time and support.
It is the entitlement that everyone must support your causes. What makes you think your causes are worth the time of everyone? Then the intolerance they exude.
He believes people should not need bullying or manipulation to sell an idea.
If a cause has genuine value, Kasumba argues, people should recognize that value and choose to support it.
If you have anything great you are propagating it will be bought into on the basis of how good it is not bullying and manipulation.
His argument then takes a distinctly Christian turn.
He pointed to Jesus, saying that even the central figure of Christianity did not force people to follow Him.
Jesus never forced anyone into His thing great as it was. He only made invitations.
For Kasumba, a cause should be strong enough to win hearts without forcing anyone to join it.
