Kin Kariisa Visits Makona as He Makes Steady Recovery at Case Hospital

By Mary Teddy Namugga

Next Media CEO Kin Kariisa has visited Brian “Makona” Ssemanda in hospital and shared encouraging news about his recovery following the Entebbe Road accident that claimed the lives of his workmates, Badru Kasirye and Isaac Ndamagye.

Kariisa visited Makona and his family at Case Hospital on August 13, where he continues to receive medical care following the accident on Friday, August 7, 2026.

Speaking after the visit, Kariisa said Makona is responding well to treatment and is expected to be discharged from the hospital within the next few days.

He is not in a very bad condition. Case Hospital has taken good care of him. He is out of danger, and in two or three days he will be discharged from the hospital. The medication was good; he does not have any major issues.

Kariisa said Makona has since learnt about the loss of the two colleagues he was travelling with, a reality that has been difficult for him to process.

He has just known about the loss of his colleagues Badru and Isaac, whom he was with when the accident happened. It is hard for him, but we are going to get counsellors to take him through the mental recovery.

The visit comes as the Next Media leadership continues to support the families of the two colleagues who lost their lives and the whole Next Media family through this difficult time.

On Wednesday, August 12, Next Media held a grief therapy session for Transformers, led by Safe Places Uganda, as part of the organisation’s ongoing support following the loss.

During the session, Kariisa also shared an update on Brian’s medical care, explaining that he was initially rushed to Kisubi Hospital following the accident before being transferred to Case Hospital, where they could more easily monitor his treatment and recovery.

For Next Media, supporting its people remains central as the organisation walks with Makona and his family through his recovery, while also standing with the families of Badru and Isaac.
