Lydia Jazmine Says Music Industry Relationships Are “Shaky and Very Fake”

Ugandan singer Lydia Jazmine has opened up about the loneliness she has experienced in the music industry, saying many relationships between artists can be “shaky” and “very fake.”

Speaking during an appearance on DHook, Lydia reflected on the emotional message fellow singer Sheebah sent her earlier this month, saying she believes the “Ice Cream” hitmaker wrote it after noticing what she had been going through privately.

Relationships in the music industry are very shaky and very fake.

Lydia explained that she has often supported other artists and given back without expecting anything in return.

However, she admitted that being the person who is always there for others can eventually become painful when the same support is not reciprocated.

She said she had been going through a difficult period and handling much of it on her own, which made Sheebah’s message particularly meaningful.

I feel like even the reason why Sheebah wrote that letter is she saw my struggles. In this period, I was going through a lot and I was handling too much by myself.

On August 3, Sheebah publicly celebrated Lydia, praising her resilience, discipline, consistency and kindness while acknowledging the sacrifices and pressure she had endured throughout her career.

Sheebah also highlighted Lydia’s habit of supporting other artists without expecting anything in return.

For Lydia, however, that generosity has sometimes come with a painful realization: she can show up for others and still find herself alone when she needs support.

I have always supported everyone else, I have always given back to everyone else, and they are not reciprocating the love.

Still, Lydia stressed that she never supported others because she expected anything in return.

She said she does it out of love and faith, crediting God for helping her stay the course throughout her 12-year career.

I do it out of love. I do it because I want God to bless me. God has always blessed me. I am telling you, 12 years in the industry is not easy. I feel like that is one of the reasons I keep going, because I am always doing my best for others as well. God blesses you, you keep going.
