Abba Marcus Mayanja, the 20-year-old son of Ugandan musician Jose Chameleone, has been released from custody in Minnesota after spending three days in jail following a misdemeanor domestic assault arrest.
According to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, Abba Marcus was released at 12:31 p.m. local time on August 17, 2026, under what court documents describe as a “Conditional Release.”
The release came hours after Abba Marcus was scheduled to appear before the court at 9:30 a.m. at Ridgedale on the same day.
Court records show that Mayanja had two possible release options.
He could either post a $6,000 bail or bond, approximately Shs 22.3 million, without conditions, or be released on $0 with conditions.
The court ultimately granted him the second option — a non-cash conditional release.
The specific conditions attached to his release were not publicly available in the information reviewed.
Abba Marcus’s release does not bring the case to an end. He remains subject to the ongoing court process, and the domestic assault charge remains pending.
He was charged with Domestic Assault — Misdemeanor, described in the court information as an act intended to cause fear of immediate bodily harm or death.

The allegations are connected to a turbulent period in his relationship with his pregnant girlfriend, Angelica Becker, also known as Angel.
Angel has previously accused Abba Marcus of physically assaulting her during her pregnancy. She has also pushed back against people who encouraged her to forgive him, saying she intended to pursue justice over what she described as alleged violence in the relationship.
Abba Marcus has previously denied allegations of physical abuse.

In May, following an accusation that he had assaulted her, Mayanja rejected the claim, saying: “She’s trying to get into my head by making rumours about me hitting her… I didn’t.”
The contrasting accounts have since become part of a deeply personal dispute that has now entered the legal system.
The couple announced earlier this year that they were expecting a child, making the latest development particularly significant for their young family.
Their relationship had already attracted public attention, with Angel speaking publicly about the difficulties they had experienced.
The domestic assault allegations have intensified that scrutiny, but the legal case is still unresolved. The allegations against Mayanja have not been established as fact, and he remains entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty in court.
Abba Marcus is the eldest son of Ugandan music star Jose Chameleone, one of Uganda’s best-known entertainers. Unlike his father, whose career has largely been built in Uganda and across the African music scene, Mayanja has been living in the United States, where he has pursued both education and music.
His arrest has therefore brought an intensely private family matter into the public spotlight.
