Abba Marcus released From Minnesota jail

Abba Marcus Mayanja, the eldest son of music legend Jose Chameleone, has been released from custody in Minnesota, United States, following his arrest over an alleged domestic assault.

The 20-year-old was released at 12:31pm local time on August 17, 2026, according to records from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, three days after he was taken into custody.

Court records indicate that Mayanja was granted a conditional release, although the specific conditions attached to his release were not publicly disclosed.

The records list two possible release arrangements: a $6,000 (approximately Shs22.3 million) bail or bond without conditions, or a $0 release subject to conditions. Mayanja was ultimately released under the latter option, meaning he did not have to pay cash for his release.

His release came on the same day he was scheduled to appear in court at Ridgedale at 9:30am.

Mayanja faces a misdemeanor domestic assault charge relating to an allegation of an act intended to cause fear of immediate bodily harm or death. The case, however, remains pending, and his release does not amount to a determination of guilt.

The arrest comes amid a troubled period in Mayanja’s relationship with his pregnant girlfriend, Angelica Becker, popularly known as Angel.

Angel has previously alleged that Mayanja assaulted her during her pregnancy and pushed back against calls from some people for her to forgive him. She has maintained that she wants justice over the alleged abuse.

Mayanja has previously denied accusations of physical violence. In May, following allegations made by Angel, he dismissed the claims, saying: “She’s trying to get into my head by making rumours about me hitting her… I didn’t.”

The couple announced earlier this year that they were expecting a child. Mayanja, who lives in the US, has been pursuing both his education and music career there.

Interestingly, Mayanja’s release comes against the backdrop of mixed messages from Angel about the future of their relationship.

In a recent social media video, Angel appeared emotional as she admitted that she still loves and misses Mayanja despite their ongoing dispute.

I still fkin love him bro. I still fKin do,” she said, adding that she would continue to love him even after his release because he remains the father of her child.

For now, Mayanja is out of custody, but the domestic assault case against him remains before the court.
