Dancer and entertainer Ritah Danchall has revealed that she is shifting her focus to music because dancing is no longer as profitable as it used to be.
Speaking to a YouTuber, Ritah said the dancing industry has been heavily affected by the rise of TikTok, with many new dancers accepting much lower fees for performances.
Although she still receives dancing gigs, she says the money offered is no longer significant compared to what she earned in the past.
Back then someone would call you paying Shs 1 million, now they call you offering Shs 300,000 because every person you see on TikTok is a dancer now. In a month, you’ll get just one person who will pay you what you truly deserve and the other calls are them offering less.
Ritah believes the growing number of dancers on social media has diluted the industry, making it difficult for pioneers and established dancers to maintain the fees they previously commanded.
According to her, clients increasingly opt for cheaper dancers rather than paying established performers what they are worth.
“Customers would rather take the cheap ones than take you and make it work.”
Despite the challenges, Ritah says she is grateful that dancing helped her build a recognisable brand and establish herself in the entertainment industry. She is now hoping to use that foundation as she ventures further into music.
