Kampala is set for a cross border musical experience this Saturday as Rwanda’s contemporary sounds meet Uganda’s Afro urban scene at Afro Urban: Kigali Meets Kampala.
The event, backed by Club Pilsener, will take place at MoTIV Bugolobi’s VibeHouse from 5pm, bringing together musicians, DJs and creatives from both countries for a night centred on live music, culture and the growing connection between Kigali and Kampala.
Leading the line-up are Rwandan singer Mike Kayihura and Ugandan alternative R&B artist Kohen Jaycee, two performers whose music draws heavily from soulful melodies, personal storytelling and contemporary African sounds.
Kayihura has built a reputation as one of Rwanda’s versatile modern musicians, moving between R&B, soul and other contemporary influences. His catalogue includes Barely Mixed, released in 2019, the Zuba project and Intwaza, which marked his return to music in 2026.
Jaycee, meanwhile, has become one of the notable voices in Uganda’s alternative R&B and Afro urban space. His journey began with poetry, acoustic performances and online covers before he developed his own catalogue, including Wena, Heartstrings and his debut album Rwebembera: Rising Echoes.
His appearance comes at a time when he is also building anticipation around his forthcoming HERITANCE project.
The night will also feature performances from Mike Mungu and Kyle Simbwa, giving audiences a wider taste of Kampala’s evolving alternative sound.
Mungu’s music blends R&B, soul, pop, hip hop and Afro inspired production, while Simbwa brings Afro R&B, Afro pop, Afro fusion and Alté influences to the stage.
Keeping the energy going between the live performances will be DJs Ames, Kai, Karsten and Kaz, with Rwanda’s Zuba Mutesi taking on hosting duties.
For Afro Urban, the event is another step in its effort to create spaces where African music and contemporary urban culture can intersect. The Kigali Meets Kampala edition follows its Her Edition, which was held at MoTIV in March.
The partnership with Club Pilsener also fits into the beer brand’s long association with Uganda’s entertainment scene, having previously backed platforms such as Club MegaFest, Club Beats At Home and Club Dome, while also developing Club Canvas, which brings together music, art, fashion and technology.
Notably, Jaycee previously performed at Club Canvas, making his appearance at Saturday’s event a continuation of a relationship that has seen the artist feature on Club Pilsener’s cultural platforms.
With Kigali and Kampala sharing the same stage, Saturday’s event promises more than a concert. It is a meeting of two creative cities whose artists are increasingly finding common ground through music.
