Dolly Parton’s family has laid the country music legend to rest in a private funeral in Nashville, three days after her death at the age of 80.
The family held the service on August 28 at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum, where Parton now rests beside her husband, Carl Dean.
Parton’s niece, Lainey Mae Parton, confirmed the burial after the family said goodbye.
This is a really hard post for me to make. I wanted to wait until after my granny was laid to rest yesterday before I tried to put any of this into words.
The family had already made Parton’s wishes clear. She wanted a small service with only immediate family members in attendance.
At Dolly’s request, a small, private service will be held for immediate family.
Parton died on August 25 following a brief battle with cancer.
Her death prompted tributes from musicians, actors, politicians and fans around the world, but her family kept the funeral away from the public spotlight.
The private farewell also reunited Parton with Dean, her husband of nearly six decades. Dean died in March 2025, and the couple now lie beside each other at the Nashville cemetery.
Rather than hold a large public funeral, Parton’s family has encouraged fans to remember her through tributes and support for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
The country icon’s final farewell therefore stayed close to home and close to family, following the wishes she had expressed before her death.
