Cindy Sanyu is refusing to let TikTok‘s fast-moving culture dictate how she makes music.
The veteran Ugandan singer, whose real name is Cinderella Sanyu Muyonjo, has explained why she does not release music at the pace some listeners now expect.
She wants her songs to have time to settle rather than disappear beneath the next trending sound.
Speaking on Tawfiq Media, Cindy spoke about the challenge of making music for an audience that consumes content at remarkable speed.
I have a struggle with Gen Z, this new generation, because they are in a generation of scrolling through TikTok, and every one second there is new content. I do not come from this age.

Her approach is almost the opposite of the current content cycle.
Cindy wants listeners to spend months with a song, allowing the melody to draw them in before the meaning gradually reveals itself.
I want to write one song that you will listen to for months, and by the time you learn the meaning of the song, it is four months later, because at first you enjoy the beat and the melody, and finally you get the message later.
She has little interest in joining the race for constant releases.
Her years in the industry, she believes, have given her a different identity, one that allows her to stand outside the rush for constant attention.
When you see Cindy, you see a classic, you see the present, you see the future. When you see the artists performing now, they are amazing, but they are now. They are not the past, they are not the future, they are now.

Rather than make music for the moment, Cindy wants songs that can travel across generations and remain meaningful long after today’s trends have disappeared.
I want to be that artist who creates content that will last a lifetime. I want my content to be respected and consumed by everybody. That is why I give it time.
