American rapper and singer Doja Cat has opened up about past struggles with cocaine and alcohol, saying she has moved beyond her cocaine use.
The Grammy-winning artist made the revelations in a series of TikTok videos on August 31, saying she felt the need to speak openly about experiences she had kept private.
Doja said she struggled with cocaine roughly eight years ago but stressed that period of her life is behind her.
I have struggled with cocaine, could have been like eight years ago. But I am well past that. Thank God.
The 30-year-old also spoke about her relationship with alcohol, making a distinction between having problems with drinking and being an alcoholic.
I have never had a real problem with drugs, except for weed, but alcohol is something that I definitely have had a problem with. I was never an alcoholic, but I definitely had problems.

Doja said drinking contributed to negative thoughts that she then sought to validate through the internet.
The best example, from my experience, is using the internet as a means of validation to the negative thoughts in my head which were then brought on by drinking alcohol.
She also connected substance use, mental health struggles and online criticism, urging people to take care of themselves.
The revelations come months after Doja publicly discussed her mental health and revealed that she had been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.
In her latest videos, she also addressed accusations that she is “demonic” and opened up about struggling with her identity from childhood.
Doja said she felt it was finally time to speak about those experiences and share what she has learned.
