Kid Fox feared Bebe Cool’s offer was a trap – Sqoop

When “Busu” started putting Kid Fox’s name on the Ugandan music map, the young musician received an opportunity many upcoming artists would have welcomed without hesitation.

Veteran singer Bebe Cool approached him with an offer to take him under his wing and accelerate his career.

But Kid Fox was not immediately convinced.

At a time when he was still finding his feet in the industry, an approach from one of Uganda’s biggest musicians sounded almost too good to be true.

“I didn’t know whether it was a lie or a trap,” Kid Fox recalls.

The uncertainty did not last long, however. According to Kid Fox, Bebe Cool was convinced that he had spotted potential in him and believed “Busu” could have taken him much further.

“When I did Busu, Bebe Cool approached me and told me to join him so that he could make me bigger,” he says.

Bebe Cool’s confidence in the song appeared to be one of the reasons behind the offer. Kid Fox says the veteran musician told him that if “Busu” had been his own song, its success would have come much faster.

“He told me that if Busu was his track, he would have been far by then,” Kid Fox says.

Then came what Kid Fox remembers as the boldest promise of the encounter.

“He told me he would give me in five months what I would have worked for in five years,” he recalls.

For an emerging artist still trying to understand the industry, the promise was both exciting and daunting.

The encounter eventually developed into a musical relationship, with the two artists working together on “Kapere”.

What began with suspicion over whether the offer was genuine ultimately became another chapter in Kid Fox’s journey, showing how quickly an artist’s fortunes can change when an established name takes an interest in their work.

For Kid Fox, the moment also remains a reminder of just how uncertain opportunities can feel when you are still trying to find your place in the music industry.
