Minister of State for Local Government Balaam Barugahara has asked Ugandans to give the people of Tooro room to mourn following the death of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
King Oyo died on August 27, 2026, at the age of 34, leaving the Tooro Kingdom to mourn the loss of its young King.
Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki officially announced the death and assured the public of the continuity of the crown, revealing that King Oyo had left behind a prince as his heir.
With the kingdom now focused on mourning, Balaam has urged people with differing views to put their differences aside and allow Tooro to grieve without unnecessary distractions.
People should calm down and let the people of Tooro mourn in peace.
Balaam also described King Oyo’s death as a painful loss for both Tooro and Bunyoro, pointing to the deep historical and cultural ties that connect the two communities.
He said those ties make it important for Tooro and Bunyoro to stand together and support each other as the kingdom mourns its King.
