Gloria Bugie, Crysto Panda Feud: Where UMA Stands

Cindy Sanyu has explained why the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) has stayed out of the ongoing feud between Gloria Bugie and Crysto Panda, saying the association does not exist to police artists.

The UMA president addressed the issue during an interview with Galaxy TV, where she explained why the association had not issued a statement or intervened in the fallout.

Cindy believes artists should have the freedom to express themselves without UMA dictating what they can say or do.

As UMA, we encourage people to express themselves. When it becomes a concern, that is when we come in but we are not here to police people or what not say and not to do. That is not our job.

UMA can, however, step in when a situation gets out of hand.

But when we see that it is out of hand, that is when we are going to come in. But let artists express themselves. Whenever we feel like it is out of hand, we will come and give an opinion and word as UMA.

The Gloria and Panda feud has continued to attract attention as the two musicians exchange personal remarks and criticism of each other’s music.

Now, Cindy feels the dispute has gone on long enough and wants both artists to put it behind them.

I think they should finish their feud and move on to the next one. I think it has been a fair war so I feel like it should end and we get back to the music.

Founded in 2019 out of the “Save Ugandan Music” movement, UMA represents musicians, vocalists, instrumentalists, audio producers, and artist managers across Uganda.

Its work centres on promoting Ugandan music and advocating for the welfare and collective interests of people working in the industry.
