What if you could go back to your school days, put on the outfit you always wished you had worn to prom, reunite with your generation and dance the night away without actually being a student?
That is the nostalgia behind the Golden Era Prom 2026, a new adult-themed celebration designed to bring together three generations under one roof for a night of old-school music, fashion, memories and new-school energy.
Promising to take revelers through the music of the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, the first edition happening on the 12th of this Month at Kampala Rugby Club former Legends rugby grounds is built around a simple idea: celebrate where we came from while creating new memories.
“You will come here when you are old but leave when you are young,” DJ Ice said, capturing the spirit of an event that is deliberately aimed at adults who may never have experienced a traditional prom.
The dress code will be one of the night’s biggest attractions, with guests encouraged to dress according to their generation. The result is expected to be a colourful collision of styles, from classic old-school looks to the fashion that defined the 1990s and early 2000s.
But Golden Era Prom is not being positioned as just another music event.
Organisers envision it as an annual adult prom, complete with red-carpet moments, surprise performances, live-band experiences, DJs, generation-versus-generation DJ battles and interactive activities that allow guests to celebrate the era they grew up in.
There will also be voting for the kings and queens of different generations, before one ultimate king and queen are crowned for the 2026 edition.
Director Jojo Kaggwa said the idea was born from recognising that many adults never got the opportunity to experience a prom.
“We realized many people didn’t have a chance to enjoy prom. We want people to enjoy the experience. It’s going to be an annual event,” Kaggwa said.
The entertainment lineup is expected to feature personalities including DJ Mary Jo, Lone Walker, Gonel and Brandon, alongside DJs representing different generations, setting the stage for battles that could turn the dance floor into a friendly musical tug-of-war between eras.
The event will take place at Kampala Rugby Club, with organisers promising entertainment stretching from morning into the next day, alongside food and drinks.
