Veteran musician Douglas Mayanja, popularly known as Weasel Manizo, has cautioned fellow artist Kid Fox following his recent return to Uganda after years abroad, warning him that the local music industry and its power dynamics have vastly evolved.
Speaking during a recent TikTok live stream, the Goodlyfe Crew artist advised Kid Fox to tread carefully when conducting media interviews. His comments followed recent media appearances where Kid Fox reportedly downplayed and attacked several prominent figures within the local entertainment scene.
Acknowledging their long-standing relationship, Weasel urged the returning artist to show respect to those who stayed behind and built the industry, noting that the financial and social standing of Ugandan musicians has grown significantly.
“I love you, Kid Fox, because you are my brother. It’s been a while since you were in Uganda, but things have changed while you were away. People have mansions, people are driving G-Wagons,” Weasel said during the live stream.
He further emphasized that the industry requires mutual respect rather than hostility.
“This is a concrete jungle. It’s a good step you came with, but don’t disrespect your brothers,” he added.
Weasel specifically warned Kid Fox against criticizing Kyadondo East’s former Member of Parliament and National Unity Platform (NUP) leader, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, better known as Bobi Wine. According to Weasel, the former musician-turned-politician has achieved a status that sets him apart from standard industry feuds.
“Spare him because he is no longer in our league,” Weasel cautioned.
Despite his own political affiliation with the ruling party, Weasel noted that political differences should not obscure Bobi Wine’s legacy and influence within the country’s cultural landscape.
“I am an ardent NRM [National Resistance Movement] person, but he’s in his own league,” Weasel stated, emphasizing the point by adding, “If you don’t know Bobi Wine, you don’t know anyone, not even your mother.”
