Hellen Lukoma Says Talking Alone Is Not Enough to Discipline Children

Hellen Lukoma has revealed that being close to her children does not mean going easy on discipline.

The Ugandan actress, singer, fashion designer, and model says she talks to her children and tries to build a friendship with them, but she still believes beating is necessary when they need correction.

During her appearance on Bigenda Bitya, Lukoma described herself as a traditional mother who likes modernity but wants to raise her children using the same approach her parents used to raise her.

I beat them. I think I am a traditional mother. I really like modernity and I want to go with the trends, but I am going to raise them how I was raised because it is what I know. Then I also add some technology that I have seen. I talk to them, we become friends, we try to be friends, yet we do not have to be friends because they are my children. But beating is a must because if I do not beat you, the world will. I would rather do it myself.

Talking remains part of the process, but she does not see it as a replacement for punishment.

I think they have to go hand in hand. Punishment comes with talking because a child needs to know why I am beating them.

Lukoma shares two children with her husband, Anwar Kaka, commonly known as Mr. A, whom she married in 2019.

She also has one child from a previous relationship.
