Ugandan musician Big Eye has rejected the idea of Tooro returning to a child monarch, arguing that the kingdom needs an adult king who is ready to take on the responsibilities of leadership immediately.
Speaking on the ongoing debate over who should succeed the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, Big Eye said while the final decision belongs to those mandated to choose the next king, his personal preference is for an adult monarch.
“They can choose whoever they want to be the King of Tooro, but personally, I do not agree with once again having a ‘baby as King’,” Big Eye said.
Big Eye, whose comments come as the Babiito clan succession process takes shape, said choosing another young monarch could force the kingdom into a repeat of the challenges associated with having to wait for a king to grow into the role.
“It would take the Kingdom back to the same situation of waiting for him to grow up before he can fully take on the responsibilities and make independent decisions as King,” he said.

King Oyo ascended the Tooro throne at the age of three in 1995 following the death of his father, King Patrick Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III. His reign therefore involved years of growing into the constitutional and cultural responsibilities of the monarchy.
According to Big Eye, Tooro now deserves a different path.
“I believe Tooro deserves a king who is ready and capable of providing leadership now,” he said.
He, however, clarified that his position is a personal opinion and not an attempt to dictate who should take the throne.
“This is my personal opinion as Big Eye, and I respect the views of others,” he said.
