Paul Walker’s brother has no plans to return to the “Fast & Furious” franchise as Brian O’Conner.
Cody Walker, who helped complete his late brother’s scenes after his death in 2013, has ruled out stepping in for Paul again in the upcoming “Fast Forever.”
The question has surfaced as the franchise heads toward its final movie, with Vin Diesel previously teasing Brian’s possible return.
Cody says one person should have the final say if the filmmakers decide to bring Brian back: Paul’s daughter, Meadow Walker.
My stance is, it is what Meadow wants to see done; it is her father.
Cody, though, does not want to step into his brother’s shoes again.
He and his brother Caleb helped filmmakers finish Paul’s scenes for “Furious 7” after Paul died in a car crash. More than a decade later, Cody has no interest in repeating that experience.
I would not be interested in doing that again.
Technology could give the filmmakers another way to put Brian on screen.
Cody says artificial intelligence could make that possible, especially with years of unused footage from the franchise sitting in the archives.
AI was not a thing back in 2014, so they could do that. There’s years of footage that was never used from these other “Fast” films. They are the best in the business, they can figure that out.
Still, Cody thinks the franchise gave Brian the right farewell in “Furious 7.”
The film ended with Brian walking away from Dom and the rest of the crew, leaving him alive and raising his children.
I love the way his character exited the franchise. They did not kill him off, they did not do something cheesy like that. It is beautiful, [Brian] is off raising his kids.
That farewell became one of the franchise’s most emotional moments, especially after Paul died before the filmmakers completed the movie.
Now “Fast Forever” is moving toward its planned 2028 release, and fans will have to wait to see whether Brian makes another appearance.
If the filmmakers bring him back, Cody has already made his position clear: he will not be the one playing his brother again.
