Singer Sheebah Karungi says her decision to become a mother was deliberate and was not driven by a desire for financial support from a man.
The singer, who has kept much of her relationship and family life private, said she wanted her child to have an involved father, drawing from her own experience of growing up without one.
Speaking on her podcast, Sheebah said she took time to make the decision and was not looking for someone to take care of her financially.
“I am honoured that I gave birth from a real man,” she said. “Why? I took my time, and my decision was not out of desperation that I was looking for someone to take care of me.”
Sheebah said her experience growing up without a father influenced what she wanted for her child.
“I was looking for someone who was going to be a father and a father I never had because I grew up not having one,” she said.
The singer also praised fathers who remain actively involved in raising their children, regardless of their financial circumstances.
“I am proud of everybody who is a good father to their children,” she said.
She added: “Being a responsible father doesn’t need you to be rich.”
For Sheebah, responsible fatherhood is therefore defined by presence and commitment to a child rather than financial status.
The singer has previously described motherhood as a significant new chapter in her life, although she has largely kept details of her family life away from the public.
