Renowned media personality and education advocate Dr Ronnie Michael “Mitch” Egwang has opened up about the end of his marriage, describing it as the biggest failure of his life while revealing that he has not given up on finding love again.

Speaking candidly about his personal life, Dr. Mitch reflected on his 14-year marriage, admitting that its breakdown remains one of the most painful experiences he has ever gone through.

“I think my biggest failure was my marriage,” he said.

The broadcaster revealed that he was married for 14 years and shares two children with his former wife. While he did not delve into the circumstances that led to the separation, he acknowledged that the collapse of the marriage was a difficult chapter that left a lasting impact on him.

Despite the disappointment, Dr. Mitch said the experience has not made him lose faith in relationships or marriage.

Instead, he remains optimistic that he will eventually meet the right person and settle down again.

“I still believe in love and marriage,” he said, expressing hope that the future holds another opportunity for him to build a family.

BUYENDE — The Minister for the Presidency and MP Budiope West, Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda, yesterday held a meeting with the district leadership of Buyende District to evaluate the performance of government programmes, with special focus on the Parish Development Model – PDM and other social services.

Addressing the leaders, Minister Babalanda conveyed greetings from His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni, and the entire Office of the President.

She also paid tribute to leaders and wanainchi who prayed for her re-appointment as Minister-in-charge of the Presidency for another term.

The Minister urged district leaders to embrace teamwork, accountability, and discipline in the delivery of services.
“I appeal to you all to promote teamwork, desist from corruption and ensure that the wanainchi benefits from the wealth creation programmes where the government is putting a lot of money,” she said.

Minister Babalanda reminded the leaders that H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni declared that this term is a “kisanja no sleep.” “Meaning no more sleep, no more corruption, no more diversions, and no more politeness for non-performers who want leadership positions for ego and personal intentions,” she emphasized, quoting the President.

She called upon technical and political leaders in Buyende to closely monitor PDM funds and other government programs to ensure they reach intended beneficiaries at the parish and household level.

“As leaders of Buyende District, let us work as a team to deliver service to the local person of Buyende,” Minister Babalanda added.

The district leadership welcomed the Minister’s guidance and pledged to strengthen supervision, transparency, and coordination to improve service delivery in line with the NRM manifesto and the President’s directive of intensified work.

Reign Omusoyisoyi has spoken out against what he describes as the growing misuse of social media in Uganda.

Speaking during a recent media chat, the comedian said many young people spend their time spreading negativity online because of stress and unemployment.

He believes influential public figures make the situation worse by using vulgar language on the internet despite the positions they hold.

According to Reign, many young people imitate that behaviour because they look up to those personalities.

He believes public figures should set a better example and use social media responsibly.

Uganda’s boxing campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, has come to an end after Aziz Abdul Ringo was disqualified during his bout against England’s Damar Thomas.

Ringo, the grandson of former Ugandan president Idi Amin Dada, was stopped in the third round after receiving a second warning for a headbutt, resulting in his disqualification. He was the last of Uganda’s six boxers to compete at the Games, bringing the country’s boxing campaign to a close.

Away from the boxing ring, Uganda celebrated more success on the track as Peruth Chemutai secured the country’s first bronze medal of the Games in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion crossed the finish line in 9:09.96 after leading the race for much of the distance before being overtaken in the closing stages. Kenya’s Faith Cherotich claimed the gold medal, while England’s Elise Thorner finished second to take silver.

Uganda also impressed in women’s 3×3 basketball, where the Gazelles won a silver medal in their first-ever appearance at the Commonwealth Games.

The Ugandan side fell 21-11 to Australia in the final but produced a memorable run to the championship match, earning the country’s second silver medal of the competition.

With those performances, Uganda’s medal tally at the ongoing 2026 Commonwealth Games now stands at three medals—two silver and one bronze—as the nation’s athletes continue their campaign in Glasgow.

Nigerian music star Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr. P, has apologised to Nigerians following the backlash over his controversial “Who Naija language help?” comment.

Mr. P came under fire after questioning the value of Nigerian languages while responding to a follower on X.

His remarks quickly sparked criticism, with many accusing him of disrespecting the country’s languages and culture.

At first, Mr. P stood by his comments and told critics they could do their worst.

Again and again. Who Nigerian language help? If e pain you, go hit your head for wall.

However, he later changed his stance and issued a public apology on Wednesday.

If my response to ‘Who Naija language help?’ upset some people, I apologise and take full responsibility for my words. That does not mean I hate our Nigerian languages or culture.

The “Cool It Down” hitmaker also denied claims that he had singled out the Igbo language.

At no point did I say I hate the Igbo language or Igbo culture. I said ‘Naija language,’ referring to the different languages in Nigeria, but some individuals twisted it and made it seem like I specifically mentioned Igbo. I did not.

His apology came just a day after the comments sparked widespread debate across social media.

Douglas’s appeal follows the Ghetto Kids’ history-making performance at the FIFA World Cup final.

On July 19, the young dancers stepped onto football’s biggest stage and performed during the first-ever FIFA World Cup final halftime show at MetLife Stadium.

The Head of the State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU), Col. Edith Nakalema, has commended the directors of Avani Global Agri and Avani Smarts Farm for expanding their investment in Uganda, describing their commitment as a significant contribution to the country’s industrialisation, value addition and economic transformation.

Speaking during a meeting with a delegation from the company at SHIPU offices in Kampala today, Col. Nakalema said the investors were not only establishing businesses but also nurturing local talent and helping redefine Uganda’s economic future.

“Your trust is our highest currency as an investment destination. In turn, we dedicate ourselves to protecting your assets and your operations. At SHIPU, you have a dedicated shield and strategic partner,” she said.

The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Works and Transport, the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, and the Uganda Free Zones and Export Promotions Authority.

On behalf of the Government of Uganda, Col. Nakalema thanked the investors for choosing Uganda as the location for their regional operations through an initial investment of US$5 million, describing the move as a strong vote of confidence in the country’s investment climate.

She noted that the company’s investment in agro-processing aligns with the government’s strategy of shifting from exporting raw agricultural produce to manufacturing high-value products for international markets.

The project, located in Nwoya District, currently comprises more than 700 acres under turmeric and rosemary cultivation, with the crops destined for wellness, food and medicinal products after value addition.

“Agriculture has long been the heartbeat of Uganda. However, primary production is only one chapter of our agricultural story. Our national focus is now on industrial value addition, and your investment fits perfectly within that vision,” Col. Nakalema said.

She also welcomed the company’s plans to invest in electric mobility, noting that cleaner transport solutions would reduce dependence on fossil fuels while improving environmental sustainability and public health.

Reaffirming SHIPU’s mandate, Col. Nakalema said the Unit remains committed to protecting investors by eliminating unnecessary bureaucracy and ensuring seamless coordination across government institutions.

“Our mandate is anchored on zero tolerance for bureaucracy and effective coordination. That is why SHIPU exists—to ensure investors can operate with confidence,” she said.

Avani Smarts Farm Director, Dr. Siva Mahesh said the company aims to position Uganda as a global hub for life sciences molecule extraction from agricultural products.

He revealed that turmeric and rosemary are already being cultivated on more than 700 acres in Northern Uganda, with plans to expand production to 5,000 acres before scaling up to between 10,000 and 30,000 acres through partnerships with outgrower farmers.

“We want Uganda to become the life sciences molecule extraction hub for the world, not just Africa,” Dr. Mahesh said, adding that the company plans to establish a world-class extraction facility in Kampala to process agricultural raw materials from Uganda and neighbouring countries.

He also unveiled plans to accelerate Uganda’s transition to electric mobility by converting existing motorcycles into electric bikes.

“Our goal is to make EV conversion affordable. Riders should not have to buy a new motorcycle to embrace electric mobility,” he said.

The Commissioner for Transport Regulation and Safety at the Ministry of Works and Transport, Mr. Winstone Katushabe, said electric mobility has become a national priority under the Fourth National Development Plan (NDP IV) and the government’s Tenfold Growth Strategy.

He noted that Uganda is laying the foundation for the transition through local electric vehicle manufacturing by Kiira Motors, expansion of charging infrastructure and growing private sector investment in electric motorcycles and battery-swapping networks.

“We need more investment, public awareness and financing to accelerate the transition. The government will continue putting in place policies and regulations that support the private sector and make electric mobility a success in Uganda,” Mr. Katushabe said.

Meanwhile, Ms. Aacha Mary Orikiriza, Undersecretary at MAAIF, reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting investment in high-value crops such as turmeric and rosemary.

She said investors would benefit from government support in agricultural research, innovation, climate-smart technologies, irrigation, mechanisation and extension services.

Ms. Orikiriza welcomed the company’s 700-acre project in Nwoya District and encouraged the adoption of an outgrower model to integrate local farmers into commercial production, create rural employment and expand Uganda’s export capacity.

She added that the ministry would work with relevant government agencies to facilitate licensing, tax incentives, export clearance and other regulatory requirements, creating an enabling environment for investment and value addition.

MASAKA – Drama unfolded during a high-level government meeting in Masaka City when Senior Local Government Minister Hon. Balaam Barugahara publicly called out his state minister, Hon. Justine Nameere Nsubuga, over repeated breaches of protocol.

In a video clip that has since gone viral, a visibly frustrated Balaam cut off Nameere as she attempted to interject while he was addressing the assembly.

“Let me talk. I don’t like this. Please. Please. Not even today. I’m the one who has made this call. I already initiated. Please kindly, for once, respect the meeting,” Balaam stated firmly, bringing the room to a temporary standstill.

He insisted that order be maintained and demanded respect for his authority as the cabinet minister leading the delegation.

The heated exchange took place in full view of local leaders, residents, and journalists. Seated right next to Nameere, Balaam redirected the floor back to the key proceedings, addressing the district controller while urging his junior minister to adhere to the established order.

A High-Stakes Crackdown Turn Sour

The Masaka engagement was part of the Ministry of Local Government’s nationwide drive to expose corruption and resolve administrative bottlenecks in local governments.

Central to the Masaka discussions was a lingering dispute over coffee seedlings delivered to local farmers. The issue has fueled public outcry over allegations of delayed payments and supply irregularities involving municipal officials and private contractors. Nameere had previously been involved in mediation efforts between aggrieved suppliers and local authorities.

Growing Friction in the Ranks?

Balaam’s blunt public reprimand has sparked intense debate online regarding official decorum, command structure, and workplace professionalism within government ranks.

While some political analysts view Balaam’s firm stance as a necessary step to maintain order during a public forum, others suggest the flare-up points to deeper underlying friction between the two leaders—particularly with the meeting taking place in Nameere’s home turf.
