Baraka returns home with purpose – Sqoop

The atmosphere at Kazo Playground was both celebratory and deeply emotional as music, laughter and community spirit filled the space during a special outreach led by Joshua Baraka.

Children danced freely, youth gathered to share ideas and showcase talent, and residents lined up not in distress, but with a sense of hope and anticipation.

At the centre of it all was Baraka, returning to his roots through his initiative, Just Believe Day, with a mission that extended far beyond entertainment.

Through the outreach, Baraka and his team supported more than 1,000 families with essential relief packages, including food, drinks and sanitary items, targeting some of the most vulnerable groups in the community.

“This place raised me,” Baraka told the crowd. “Kawempe made me who I am. Coming back here is not just charity, it’s responsibility.”

For the fast-rising artist, Kawempe is more than a location. It is the foundation of his journey, a place where he experienced hardship firsthand and built resilience.

“I understand the challenges here because I’ve lived them,” he said. “And I know how much even the smallest support can mean to a family.”

The initiative, organised under the Just Believe Foundation, focused on mothers, children and the elderly, groups often hardest hit by economic hardship. For many beneficiaries, the support went beyond material aid, restoring dignity and a sense of belonging.

Priscilla Akora, Head of Marketing and Communications at Pearl Bank, described the outreach as both timely and impactful.

“Just Believe Day blends social impact, youth empowerment and community engagement in a way that aligns with broader national development goals,” she said.

But beyond meeting immediate needs, Baraka emphasised a broader vision.

“This is not just about giving out food. It’s about restoring hope, building confidence and reminding people that they matter,” he said.

A key highlight of the day was its focus on youth empowerment. In partnership with AUMEX, aspiring creatives took part in a capacity-building programme designed to equip them with practical skills in the music business.

The programme began with a masterclass led by Abaasa, covering critical areas such as copyright, branding, digital marketing and financial literacy.

For many young participants, it was their first exposure to how creative talent can be turned into a sustainable career.

As the day unfolded, the playground transformed into a vibrant creative hub. Rap battles, freestyle sessions and live performances gave emerging artists a platform to showcase their abilities to an engaged audience.

“There is so much talent in these communities,” Baraka noted. “What’s missing is opportunity. That’s what we are trying to create.”

The outreach culminated in a free concert headlined by Baraka, with fans singing along in a moment that captured both celebration and unity.

The initiative also drew support from partners and well-wishers, including Trivia Muhooza, who praised its direct community impact.

“Projects like this address real needs and create meaningful change,” she said.

Baraka revealed that Kawempe is only the beginning, with plans already underway to extend Just Believe Day to other communities across Uganda facing similar socio-economic challenges.

“This is just the start,” he said. “We want to reach more places, especially those that need it most.”

As the sun set over Kawempe, the music faded, but the impact lingered. Families left with essential supplies, young creatives with new knowledge and ambition, and a community with a renewed sense of being seen.

For Baraka, that is what truly matters.

“It’s not just about the music,” he said. “It’s about how many lives you can touch.”

Following the success of the initiative, the singer is now preparing to take his message beyond Uganda, with upcoming tour stops in Canada and Europe.
