Kampala experienced one of the most immersive events this year at the Linus Tattoo Party at Millennium Grounds on Friday night. Making its second appearance on the social scene, the Linus Tattoo Party proved why it is quickly becoming more than just another party. It fused body art, music, fashion and youth culture into one electrifying night that constantly shifted between rave energy and concert intensity. From the moment revellers entered the venue, the atmosphere felt different. Tattoo parlours were set up across the grounds, with partygoers lining up for fresh ink at discounted prices while others showed off elaborate body art under flashing lights and clouds of smoke.
On stage, DJs Hardy, Melvyn, Alza and others warmed up the crowd with high-energy sets before DJ Spinny completely changed the mood with a thrilling house music takeover that sent the audience into a frenzy. His smooth, unpredictable transitions turned Millennium Grounds into what felt like a giant underground rave. Daily Bundle star Elijah Kitaka kept the crowd engaged with other hits such as Nothing and Ekyange before Joshua Baraka added a softer but equally explosive touch with performances of Morocco and Wrong Places. In one of the night’s unexpected moments, Baraka stepped behind the DJ booth and showed off impressive DJ skills that sent fans screaming in excitement.
Then came the man behind the event itself. Linus, the tattoo artist-turned-DJ, who delivered one of the night’s biggest surprises. Despite being relatively new behind the decks, he controlled the crowd like a seasoned performer, proving he is aiming for more than tattoo fame. Later, rising South African singer CowBoii performed hits including Hamba Kanje, Kuayafana Mos, Kwela and Khuze. However, the mood shifted when headlining Amapiano artiste Scotts Maphuma failed to show up, sparking backstage confrontations between organisers and the singer’s manager over refunds. By Saturday, Maphuma responded on TikTok, claiming he refused to travel because the agreed payment had not been completed. Still, despite the controversy, the Linus Tattoo Party had already stamped itself onto Kampala’s nightlife culture.
