Karole Kasita has responded to ongoing debate about artists who travel abroad for shows while flying economy class, saying the focus should be on securing the opportunity rather than public perception.
Karole was among several Ugandan artists who recently traveled to London for a performance, alongside Ziza Bafana, Winnie Nwagi, and John Blaq.
In recent days, there has been growing online discussion questioning why some Ugandan performers still fly economy on international bookings, especially when traveling for high-profile shows.
However, Karole says her travel arrangement was not a matter of preference but circumstance. She explained that she flew economy on her way to London but returned in business class after being upgraded.
The reason is that sometimes the goal is to get where you are going because they want you on a Friday and sometimes there’s no business class or it’s full on that particular day but coming back, they upgraded me to a different class.
Karole also pushed back against pressure from public opinion, saying she chooses practicality over appearances when it comes to her career.
But also I want to live my own life knowing I don’t need to move on people’s opinions because they want business class and that I should go with business class, no.
I don’t want to fail to move tomorrow to work because I normalized moving in business class, I don’t roll like that. For me it’s all about making the money.
