President Yoweri Museveni has appointed 30 new entrants into Uganda’s 2026-2031 Cabinet in a sweeping reshuffle announced on May 26, a day after the election of Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oboth-Oboth and his deputy Thomas Tayebwa.
The new appointments introduce a mix of veteran politicians, diplomats, technocrats, and fresh political figures into government, with several high-profile returns and first-time Cabinet entrants taking up key positions.
Among the notable appointments is NRM Central Executive Committee member for Western Uganda, Jonard Asiimwe, who has been named Minister in charge of Science, Technology and Innovation in the Office of the President.
Veteran diplomat Adonia Ayebare has been appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, while former Defence Minister Crispus Kiyonga makes a return to Cabinet as the 2nd Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament.
Businessman Sanjay Tanna has been appointed Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, while outspoken Aringa South MP Alioni Yorke Odria takes over as Minister of State for ICT and National Guidance.
Other fresh entrants include former ministers and senior public figures such as Henry Tumukunde, who has been appointed Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, and Ephraim Kamuntu, who returns as Minister of Internal Affairs.
The newly appointed Cabinet entrants are:
