The president of the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA), Cindy Sanyu, has welcomed the government’s decision to temporarily suspend concerts and unorganised public gatherings following the Ebola outbreak.
Speaking to Galaxy TV, Cindy said the move is understandable because no one would want the country to return to another lockdown similar to what happened during the Covid-19 pandemic.
My plan right now is to have a meeting with the ministry and have a dialogue and see the way forward and see how we are also sustained during this time otherwise I don’t think they want to see us headed back to Gulu.
The singer stressed that musicians are willing to cooperate with the authorities to avoid a worse situation that could completely affect the entertainment industry again.
Big Eye StarBoss, who is also part of the UMA leadership, echoed Cindy’s concerns, saying artists are likely to suffer losses just like they did during Covid-19 if the restrictions continue for a long period.
However, he remains hopeful that the government will not impose very strict measures like before.
Because it isn’t the first time we are getting Ebola but I request that they don’t take us back into that life because it squeezed us a lot as the music industry.
