Veteran Ugandan singer Mesach Ssemakula has spoken out against social media users and public figures who have criticized artists over their response to the death of Master Parrot.
Master Parrot tragically lost his life on 1 June 2026 after reportedly being knocked down by a speeding vehicle while attempting to cross the road in Masanafu along the Kampala Northern Bypass. His sudden death sent shockwaves across the entertainment industry, prompting an outpouring of tributes from fans, friends, and fellow entertainers.
However, amid the mourning, several social media users turned their attention to a number of musicians, including Bobi Wine, Jose Chameleone, and King Saha, accusing them of failing to support Master Parrot while he was alive but being quick to post condolence messages after his death.
Bobi Wine, in particular, faced criticism after sharing a tribute on social media, with some critics questioning why more support had not been extended to Parrot during his lifetime, especially considering their past association under Firebase Crew.
Addressing the criticism, Mesach Ssemakula expressed disappointment with those passing judgment from afar, arguing that many people were unaware of the efforts being made behind the scenes by artists and friends during the funeral arrangements.
“If you get the news, do what you can do that you think we have not managed to do. It is not that we were trained, nor is it our profession to look after people,” Ssemakula said.
He further noted that some of the individuals criticizing artists were not present during the vigil and burial preparations, despite the fact that committees had been formed and resources mobilized to ensure a dignified send-off.
“Whoever said that didn’t even see us because we were here from the vigil at night. We had meetings and collected the money that was used to do all these things. We even had a committee. But you sit behind your cameras calling us out, yet you are not even here,” he added.
The veteran singer urged the public to be more responsible and mature in how they react to sensitive situations, stressing that grieving periods should not be turned into opportunities for blame and public attacks.
Ssemakula also revealed that he declined requests to speak extensively during the funeral proceedings because he believed there were people who knew Master Parrot more closely and were better suited to share memories of his life.
As the entertainment fraternity continues to mourn Master Parrot, Ssemakula’s remarks have reignited conversations about public expectations of celebrities and the often-unseen support systems that exist behind the scenes during times of loss.
