What began as a musical collaboration has now turned into a public fallout between singers Omega 256 and Cindy Sanyu.
The two artists are currently at odds over the sharing of royalties from their joint song, See You Tonight, with both sides presenting conflicting accounts of how the project was handled.
Earlier this week, Cindy Sanyu voiced her frustration over the arrangement, accusing Omega 256 of claiming ownership of the song and altering what she believed should have been an equal royalty split. Cindy further alleged that she financed the song’s production while Omega’s role was limited to recording vocals.
However, Omega has since dismissed the accusations, insisting that the claims are false and unsupported.
Speaking to the media, the singer challenged Cindy to provide evidence of the payments she claims to have made and maintained that the allegations had unfairly damaged her reputation and brand.
Omega also revealed that the dispute has been personally disappointing because she considered Cindy more than just a colleague.
According to the singer, she had consistently defended and supported Cindy in various media interviews and never expected such accusations from someone she regarded as a friend.
As the disagreement continues to play out publicly, music fans have taken to social media to debate the ownership and royalty issues surrounding the collaboration.
Whether the pair can repair their friendship and settle the matter privately remains to be seen, but for now, the dispute has added another chapter to the growing list of public disagreements within Uganda’s music industry.
