Veteran musician Halima Namakula has revealed the hefty dowry she expects from any man seeking her daughter Rachel Kiwanuka’s hand in marriage.
According to Halima, she has already set the bar high, insisting that any prospective son-in-law must present 300 cows before Rachel can officially leave her family home.

She made the remarks after Hon. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi jokingly expressed interest in having a private conversation with Rachel K during a function that celebrated her return from Hajj.
Balaam noted that this was not the first time Halima had made such a declaration, explaining that she established the requirement long ago.
Halima told me that she wants a man marrying her daughter to come like a Sudanese Dinka, with 300 cows. If each cow costs about Shs2 million, that translates to approximately Shs600 million.
The comments have since sparked mixed reviews and laughter, with many interpreting the statements as a lighthearted way of emphasizing the high value Halima places on her daughter.
