Joshua Baraka explains why cameras were banned at his father’s burial – Sqoop

Singer Joshua Baraka has defended his decision to restrict filming at the burial of his late father, a move that has sparked criticism from some content creators who attended the ceremony over the weekend.

Reports from attendees indicate that tight security was deployed throughout the burial, with anyone found recording videos allegedly being asked to delete the footage. In some cases, phones and other recording devices were reportedly confiscated to prevent images and videos from circulating online.

The restrictions did not sit well with some content creators and social media personalities, who felt they were being unfairly prevented from documenting a public figure’s family event. Their frustrations quickly spilled onto social media, where debate emerged over whether the measures were excessive or justified.

But for Joshua Baraka, the decision was deeply personal rather than performative.

Addressing the criticism through a social media post, the “Wrong Places” singer explained that he wanted to preserve his father’s dignity and protect his family from having painful moments turned into online content.

“I couldn’t stand the thought of scrolling the internet and seeing my father’s casket in the grave. That’s why no videos were allowed at the burial. You can spin it how you want. God will forgive you for the things you do for clout,” he wrote.

Many supporters have rallied behind the artist, arguing that funerals are intimate family moments and that grieving families have every right to decide what can and cannot be recorded. Others, however, maintain that the strict enforcement reflected the growing tension between public figures seeking privacy and content creators eager to capture every moment for online audiences.
