Award-winning singer Maurice Kirya has addressed concerns from fans about the cost of attending his concerts, saying the ticket prices reflect the scale and quality of the experience he works hard to deliver.
The musician revealed that a fan recently contacted him through TikTok, questioning why his concert tickets are often priced beyond the reach of many ordinary music lovers and asking whether he genuinely wants everyone to attend.
In response, Kirya said he absolutely wants his supporters to be part of his shows, which is why he usually announces his concerts several months in advance.
According to the singer, giving fans as much as nine months’ notice allows those interested enough time to plan and save for the event.
Kirya explained that his concerts are not simply about stepping on stage and performing songs. Instead, he views them as carefully designed artistic productions that require significant planning, resources and investment.
He disclosed that a substantial portion of the money used to stage his shows comes from his own pocket, highlighting the personal commitment he makes to ensure audiences receive the experience he envisions.
The singer noted that producing high-quality concerts involves considerable costs, but said he remains willing to make those sacrifices because of his passion for his craft and dedication to delivering memorable performances.
Kirya also spoke about the long-term value of his work, expressing confidence that future generations will appreciate the contribution he has made to Uganda’s music industry.
He said he believes a time will come when people will look back and take pride in having witnessed his artistry firsthand, adding that the significance of his work will become even clearer with time.
