Zafaran has officially parted ways with Swangz Avenue after four years, marking the end of a chapter that helped establish her as one of the country’s rising female artistes.
The singer, born Josephine Nakyoonyi, announced the news in a statement shared on social media, where she also unveiled a new stage name. Going forward, she will perform as Zafar, dropping the last two letters from her former name.
I wish to formally announce that I am no longer affiliated with Swangz Avenue.
Zafar described the separation as amicable, saying she reached the decision after “much prayer and reflection.”
She thanked the label for the mentorship, support and opportunities that shaped both her career and personal growth.
I am deeply grateful for the opportunities, mentorship, support, and experiences I received during my time with the label. This journey has played a significant role in my growth, both as an artiste and as an individual.
Her departure follows months of speculation about her future at the label after she confirmed earlier this year that contract renewal discussions were ongoing behind the scenes.
Zafar joined Swangz Avenue in March 2022 after building a reputation as a sought-after backup vocalist for artistes including Jose Chameleone, King Saha, Karole Kasita, B2C Soldiers, and John Blaq.
During her time at the label, she released several songs and gained recognition for her powerful live performances.
In her farewell message, the singer thanked fans for their continued support and promised more music as she begins her career as an independent artiste.
