Dating used to sound so simple. You meet someone. You get to know each other. You fall for each other. The end.
But now?
It feels like everyone is looking for a shortcut. You meet, you start texting, and the conversation is amazing for about three days. They are calling you beautiful, asking about your day, making plans, and acting like they are genuinely interested in getting to know you.
Then, somehow, every conversation starts heading in the same direction.
The late-night texts become a little too freaky. The compliments become less about who you are and more about your body. Suddenly, you are wondering if they were ever interested in your personality at all.
Sometimes it genuinely feels like all anyone wants is to get in your pants.
Of course, that is not everyone. There are people looking for real relationships, meaningful connections, and something that lasts. But after enough disappointing conversations, it is easy to start questioning people’s intentions.
The frustrating part is not the sex itself. There is nothing wrong with two consenting adults wanting that. The frustrating part is pretending to want something deeper just to get there. If all you are looking for is something casual, say that. Let people decide whether they are on the same page instead of selling them a relationship that never existed.
No one likes feeling like they were simply another name on someone’s list. Maybe that is why so many people have trust issues when it comes to dating today. It is hard to believe compliments when you have heard the same lines before. It is hard to invest emotionally when you do not know whether someone likes you or just likes the idea of sleeping with you.
That is also why genuine connection feels so rare.
Real attraction is not just physical. It is wanting to know how someone’s day went. It is remembering the little things they told you weeks ago. It is enjoying their company even when sex is not on the table.
Maybe we are all craving genuine connection more than we admit. Because at the end of the day, being desired feels good. But being valued feels even better.
