Weasel Says Social Media Has Changed Celebrity Culture

Weasel Manizo believes social media has transformed celebrity culture, making artists more accessible than ever before while stripping away much of the mystery that once surrounded fame.

Appearing on NBS After 5, the singer reflected on how fans interacted with musicians before the rise of social media, saying public figures were once seen only through television appearances and live performances.

Back then, you only saw people on TV. These days, we see them every day on social media, so the message is not as deep anymore.

For artists of Weasel’s generation, celebrity once depended as much on absence as it did on visibility.

Fans often waited for television interviews, concerts or magazine features to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars, creating a sense of anticipation that helped shape public fascination.

Today, that distance has largely disappeared. Social media gives audiences constant access to the lives of entertainers, allowing them to follow everything from studio sessions to family moments in real time.

While Weasel did not criticise the digital age, his remarks highlighted how dramatically the relationship between celebrities and their audiences has evolved, with familiarity gradually replacing the mystery that once defined stardom.
