Gulu University Releases Private Sponsorship Admission List for 2026/2027

The wait is over for thousands of applicants eyeing a place at Gulu University. The Office of the Academic Registrar has officially released the Direct Entry Scheme admission list for privately sponsored students for the 2026/2027 academic year, opening the door for successful candidates to access their admission letters from July 1, 2026.

The announcement was made through Circular 04/2026/2027, dated June 29, 2026, and signed by the Academic Registrar, Dr. Jerry Bagaya.

Who Has Been Admitted

The admission list covers candidates admitted on Private Sponsorship under the Direct Entry Scheme and the Higher Education Access Certificate (HEAC) Programmes. Successful applicants span a wide range of districts across Uganda — from Gulu, Lira, Kitgum, and Omoro in the north, to Wakiso, Kampala, Mukono, Jinja, Iganga, and Isingiro — reflecting the university’s national draw.

Admissions cut across more than 40 academic programmes, including some of the university’s most competitive courses. Among them are the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, Bachelor of Pharmacy, Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Bachelor of Public Administration and Management, Bachelor of Science in Public Health, and various education-focused degrees such as the Bachelor of Arts with Education and Bachelor of Science Education.

The list also features newer and specialised offerings, including the Bachelor of Computer Science (Gaming and Animation Technology), Bachelor of Sports, Exercise and Health Science, and the Bachelor of Science in Biosystems Engineering — a sign of the university’s expanding academic portfolio.

How to Access Your Admission Letter

Admitted students can access and download their provisional admission letters effective July 1, 2026, by logging into their application portals and clicking on “Admission History.”

For the full admission letters, students will need to collect them in person, effective July 1, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, from the respective Faculties, Institutes, or Campuses.

What to Carry

To collect the full admission letter, students must come along with:

  • Original UCE and UACE result slips
  • An Identity Card from their previous school, or a National Identity Card

The Academic Registrar issued one firm condition: full admission letters must be collected by the admitted persons themselves, and not by third parties. In other words, no sending a friend or relative to pick it up on your behalf.

What This Means for Applicants

For privately sponsored students, this release marks the moment admission moves from hope to reality. The advice is straightforward: log into your portal, check your admission status, download the provisional letter, and prepare the required documents to collect the full letter from July 1.

If your name is on the list, congratulations — and if it isn’t, keep an eye out, as universities often run additional intake windows for remaining slots.
