Juliana Kanyomozi has shared one of the most painful chapters of her life, revealing how grief and depression once left her feeling like she had lost the will to sing, and even the will to live.
Speaking on Deep Talk, the celebrated singer reflected on a period she described as emotionally overwhelming, admitting that the weight of her grief affected every part of her life.
I hated everything. I did not want to sing. I did not want to live. Forget about singing, I did not want to live.
She recalled feeling trapped in her own pain, struggling to express what she was going through even as life around her appeared to move on.
It felt like being stuck in a dark hole, and no one could hear me screaming for help.
Juliana said the grief gradually gave way to depression, leaving her in what she now recognises as one of the most dangerous periods of her life.
That was a very, very dangerous time for me.
She credits her recovery to faith, family and a close circle of friends who refused to let her face the darkness alone.
According to Juliana, some offered words of comfort, while others challenged her with tough love. Many simply showed up, checked in regularly and spent time with her when she needed it most.
Some of them gave me tough love. They kept checking in and would come home. Sometimes they even planned evenings just to be with me because they knew I needed that.
Looking back, Juliana says the experience taught her the value of people who remain present through life’s darkest moments.
Although she did not revisit the specific events behind her grief during the interview, she has previously spoken publicly about the devastating loss of her first son, Keron Raphael Kabugo, in 2014, a tragedy that profoundly shaped her life.
