Singer Sir Mathias Walukagga has confirmed long-standing rumors that he once served as the late Paul Job Kafeero’s house help and errand boy at the legendary musician’s home in Maganjo.
Speaking during a phone interview, Walukagga revealed that it happened in 1996, shortly after he had joined the music industry.
“Yes, I was his house help in 1996. That’s when I had just joined the music industry.”
He explained that he had initially gone to work with fellow musician Livingstone Kasozi, but fate smiled on him when Kafeero, whom he greatly admired, happened to visit.
The encounter marked the beginning of a life-changing relationship.
I had gone to join Livingstone Kasozi, then Kafeero came through. Since he was the musician I admired most, it was a coincidence that we met.
Walukagga recalled that he impressed Kafeero after providing backing vocals during a performance at Nakivubo Stadium.
Pleased with his talent, Kafeero invited him to live at his Maganjo home alongside Bisirikirwa and Hillary Kisanja.
According to Walukagga, the opportunity fulfilled one of his biggest dreams and played a significant role in shaping his music career.
When I backed him during a performance at Nakivubo Stadium, he liked me and took me along with him. It was a dream come true when he welcomed me to his home in Maganjo, where I lived with Bisirikirwa and Hillary Kisanja.
However, Walukagga clarified that despite being Kafeero’s errand boy, he cannot claim to know much about the late singer’s wives or personal relationships.
I was his errand boy, but I don’t want to claim that I knew anything about his wives. I often saw him with different men and women because many people frequently visited and interacted with him.
