MC Kats reveals devastating loss of second baby mama to HIV

Events host MC Kats (Edwin Katamba) has opened up about one of the darkest chapters of his life, revealing how his HIV status was exposed by someone he considered a close friend and recounting the painful loss of his second baby mama.

MC Kats said that when he first learned of his HIV status, only three people knew about it.

However, he later confided in a close friend who worked as a reporter at the now-defunct Red Pepper newspaper, hoping to reassure him that singer Fille had accepted his status.

Instead, the journalist allegedly published the story on the newspaper’s front page under the headline, “KATS GAVE ME HIV,” a move that Kats says turned his life upside down.

I told a close friend of mine from Red Pepper that Fille was okay with me despite my HIV status. He wrote a headline on the front page saying, ‘KATS GAVE ME HIV.’

I still have that paper in my house nine years later. Do you know the reach Red Pepper had? The paper used to sell out by 10 a.m. You can imagine what my family, friends, and relatives went through.

The media personality said the betrayal was particularly painful because he had often provided the reporter with exclusive stories from Kampala’s nightlife and entertainment scene.

MC Kats also shared a heartbreaking account of losing his second baby mama, claiming she was HIV-positive but never received antiretroviral therapy (ARVs) because her parents refused to allow her to start treatment.

According to Kats, he understood the importance of HIV medication and wanted her to receive treatment, but her family’s decision left him helpless as he watched her health deteriorate.

The most hurting thing around that time was that my second baby mama was sick with HIV. I was educated about the medication and I was taking mine, but her parents were old-fashioned and refused to get her the medication.

I watched that girl practically die, but I had no choice. They refused to give her ARVs. If they had done so, she would probably still be alive today.
