One concert was all it took to change Lanek‘s gospel music rankings.
Following Joseph Ngooma‘s packed Lugogo Cricket Oval concert on July 11, the self-proclaimed President of Gospel Artistes in Uganda says the singer has earned the country’s top spot.
Thousands attended the concert, and reports suggest that many worshippers could not gain entry because the venue had reached capacity.
Lanek believes the achievement deserves recognition.
Joseph Ngooma has made wonders. The turnout at Lugogo showed how far gospel music has come, and I celebrate him for that.
Until last weekend, Pastor Wilson Bugembe held the top position on Lanek’s list, followed by Levixone, Pastor Twina, and Pastor Justin Nabosa.
Joseph Ngooma’s concert, however, changed his thinking.
My list has now changed. Joseph Ngooma has broken the list. He is now number one, and the others follow after him.
Lanek also credited years of prayer and activism with helping strengthen Uganda’s gospel music community.
He pointed to his past demonstrations, including wearing sackcloth and carrying a cross, saying they reflected his commitment to serving the Christian fraternity.
Although Joseph Ngooma now tops his rankings, Lanek says he still considers himself the overall leader of the gospel music fraternity.

He also ruled out organizing another concert in the near future, admitting that his experience at Freedom City Mall remains fresh in his mind.
After what happened at Freedom City, I am not dreaming of organizing another concert anytime soon.
Lanek’s mid-2025 concert drew a disappointingly small crowd, a setback that continues to influence his decision to stay away from organizing another event.
