Barugahara says he will not be intimidated by witchcraft in corruption probe

Minister for Local Government Balaam Barugahara has dismissed claims that he should fear witchcraft as he intensifies his campaign against corruption in local governments across Uganda. The minister said he remains committed to exposing and fighting corrupt officials despite criticism from some opposition figures who have questioned his methods.

Balaam has recently come under scrutiny over his practice of publicly confronting and exposing officials accused of corruption during inspection visits, with critics arguing that the approach is more performative than fair. However, he insists he is simply carrying out his constitutional mandate and will not be intimidated by anyone.

Speaking on the matter, Balaam said those hoping to stop him through witchcraft are wasting their time because he believes such practices have no power over him.

He encouraged Ugandans not to live in fear, saying faith in God is greater than any form of witchcraft.

They aren’t God. If someone bewitches you, you go to God and pray. Most importantly I’m doing my job and following the Constitution. Those who think they can bewitch me are wasting their time.

The minister further urged his supporters and all Ugandans who desire better governance to remain confident, stressing that the fight against corruption should not be abandoned because of fear.

He noted that everyone, including witch doctors and even the world’s most powerful people, eventually dies, but what matters is leaving behind a legacy of service and integrity.

Should we leave Uganda to die because we fear witchcraft? Even the most powerful people in the world die, but we have to serve the country and be remembered as freedom fighters and as people who fought corruption in local government.

Those thinking of bewitching me are wasting their time. Witchcraft does not work, and I do not fear it. My people should not fear anyone because no one will bewitch me.- Hon. Balaam SanyukaUnCut SanyukaUpdates FfeBannoDdala
