Kenzo Slams UPRS Over Weasel’s Shs285,498 Royalty Payment

Eddy Kenzo has thrown his weight behind Weasel Manizo after reports revealed the singer received Shs285,498 in royalties for the Goodlyfe Music catalogue from the Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS).

The Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) president did not hold back after reports claimed Weasel received Shs285,498 in royalties, describing the figure as an insult to one of Uganda’s most celebrated musicians.

The highest level of disrespect.

Kenzo argued that an artist whose music has dominated airwaves in Uganda and found audiences across East Africa should never receive such a modest payout if the royalty system is working as intended.

His comments come after reports indicated that Spice Diana received Shs1.4 million in the same round of royalty payments, a development that has intensified discussions about how UPRS calculates each artist’s share.

For Kenzo, the issue goes beyond one payment.

He believes the figures raise serious questions about whether Uganda’s royalty system truly rewards artists according to the success and reach of their music.
