Irene Namatovu has opened up about some of the most special songs in her music career, revealing the stories and memories behind her top five tracks.
Speaking during an interview with Sanyuka TV, the singer highlighted songs from her catalogue that hold deep personal meaning, starting with her gospel hit “Mukama Webale.”
Namatovu explained that the song remains emotional for her because it reflects her gratitude to God and the blessings she has experienced throughout her life.
It’s a gospel song and whenever I sing it, it’s too emotional. I love it a lot because it reminds me about a lot of things and what God has done for me.
Her second choice was “Kuzala Kujagana,” a song she credits for playing a major role in transforming her career. According to Irene, the track opened doors for her internationally and contributed to her recognition at the AFRIMMA Awards.
For her third pick, Namatovu mentioned “Aliba Ani,” a collaboration with her husband Geoffrey Lutaaya. She described the song as one about healing and finding joy through music.
That one was for healing and it reminds me that there are situations you be in and when you sing, you heal and enjoy.
The singer also selected “Nkonyogo” as her fourth favourite, describing it as a fun song about determination and pursuing someone you love. Although it was created for entertainment, she said she has always enjoyed the track.
Completing her list was “Nsambila Nyuma Nga Janzi,” a song from the period when she transitioned into cultural music. Namatovu said the song was warmly received by fans and remains one of the tracks she treasures in her catalogue.
